I'm a Terrible Person

My mom and my sisters are all losing weight.  I'm maintaining/gaining (depending on the time of the month).  I would probably be losing too if I actually kept to my diet/exercise program.  But I end up eating crap and skipping the Y.  This isn't hard, I've done this before.  Why the hell am I sabotaging myself this way?  And why is it that I can't be happy for them?

I'm going home this weekend, so I won't have that much control over what I eat.  My cupboards are mostly cleaned out of junk.  If I can maintain focus during this week's grocery shopping, and maintain focus at the Y, I can get this started again.  Amy's going to be in town, so I'm sure we'll be eating out a couple of times this week.  I should probably get a salad or something.  Or work out super hard.  I am going to take her to zumba.  I'm going to make her get right up front with me.  Swear to God it's the easiest way to follow what Elizabeth is doing, and NOT get distracted by other people. 

I'm also thinking that it's time to start the 30 Shred again, and maybe add in some personal training.  I've only got a few months before the next cruise, and I want to at least get down to my previous cruise weight.  I would prefer to re-use some of the clothes I bought before.

This ramble may have been brought to you by PMS.  God, I hope so.  If that's the case, I'm going to lose at least two pounds easy.

Because I'm a Huge Geek

I have been reading a TON of Avengers/Marvel Movie-verse fanfic lately. I seriously can not get enough. My ships in this fandom are varied in fluid. 

So far, I've got:
  • Darcy/Everyone (She really does work with everyone.  Even in femme slash, which is not my favorite.)

Now I'm looking for good cross-over fics - I feel like Doctor Who would work especially well.  I want a scene where Rory tells Steve how he punched Hitler and then put him in the cupboard.  I need that for my soul.

The Theater!

Living in the middle of the middle west, live theater can be tough to come by. Lucky me, I've got tickets to two shows this month!

Last weekend, our local community theater put on "All My Sons" by Arthur Miller. Normally my theater experiences are limited to musicals and comedies. What can I say? Theater is my escape and I like a happy ending. As this was written by Arthur Miller, I knew this wasn't going to be to my normal taste. The only reason I was going was so that I didn't waste the ticket. I bought the membership package this year and that comes with a free ticket to each show. So a group of five of us made our reservations and prepared to be entertained.

Now I've seen good community theater and bad community theater, and the size of the community doesn't guarantee that the production will be of quality. Honestly the worst show I ever sat through was put on by the biggest city in our state. That said, our local community theater puts out a consistently good product. The show had a few pacing issues, but overall it was very well done!

I keep thinking that I need to volunteer with the Players, but I'm honestly not sure what I would bring to the table. The best that I could do would be to run the box office!

After the show we all went to Red Rossa for drinks and dessert. As Red Rossa has only been open for a month, this was the best time to check it out. (Okay, I had been to the one in SF and was able to snag an invite to their tryout. This was the best time for the OTHER people in our group to check it out.) The bar was what you'd expect - I couldn't get my Harvey Wallbanger so I ended up drinking an iced tea. Not that you could tell because my brain decided to disengage from my mouth and just let me talk and ramble on the entire night. Not awesome because a couple of the people were new to the group. They had no idea what they were getting into.

This coming Saturday I'll be watching the other end of the spectrum. The national touring company of "In the Heights" will be stopping in SF and I've got tickets!

I've loved "In the Heights" ever since the Amazing Seth Rudetsky introduced me to the soundtrack on Sirius Radio. (I siriusly miss that subscription!) I've since downloaded the complete soundtrack and have memorized most of the songs. I have high hopes for this show!

I saw Young Frankenstein (another touring company) in the same venue last month and had an awesome time! My only complaint is that we were so far from the stage, and I expect our tickets will be in the same area this time as well. One thing I love about community theater is that there are no nose bleed seats. Everyone is close enough to see the action!

Random Weekend Plans

I am not an interesting person. I really need to work on that.

My home computer is down, which means I can't watch any of my television shows. No Castle, no Once Upon a Time, no Alcatraz. Anything graphics heavy causes Windows to crash. Pinterest isn't going to happen and Facebook is incredibly slow. I can still catch up on my fanfiction, but searches are slow and still being redirected.

On the upside, life without a home computer left me time to watch the first three seasons of Leverage on DVD - I'd seen them before, but it had been awhile. I caught the first half of season four before I cut my cable off. I'm waiting for the season four DVDs to come out so I can catch the second half. (Stupid TNT. Even if I HAD cable I wouldn't be able to watch Leverage online. Midcontinent, otherwise known as the only game in town, isn't one of their "approved" cable providers for online viewing.)

I also read The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz. I expected it to be better than it was. I love a book with funny footnotes, but others (Jen Lancaster, Terry Pratchett, and Dave Barry to name a few) have done it better and with more comedic effect than Lisa Lutz did. I was never sure what motivated any of the characters, other than Izzy (the main protagonist), and the plot was kind of thin.

I've got a few other books to read over the weekend Explosive Eighteen by Janet Evanovich (not expecting much), Snuff by Terry Pratchett, and Lunatics by Dave Barry. I still need to finish Heartless by Gail Carriger.

This weekend I'll also be taking in All My Sons by Arthur Miller. Our community theater is putting it on. It's not to my usual taste, but I'm a member so the ticket is already paid for. Afterward, a bunch of us are going out for desserts and drinks. The play is supposed to be kind of a downer, so I'm sure we'll need it.

366 Days

In 365 days I'll be on my way to Orlando, FL.

In 366 days I will be on board the Disney Fantasy.

Today I am 16 pounds heavier than when I was on the Disney Magic in February.

My pants are getting uncomfortable and I hate it. It's time to crackdown. I have one year to make my goal - maintaining a weight somewhere between 120-1230 pounds. To do this, I need to start being serious (again) about my diet and exercise habits. It's time for....The Crackdown!

Crackdown Rules

1. If it comes from a drive-through or a delivery person, don't eat it. I'm re-instituting the ban on fast food. And yes, this is going to include Papa Murphy's!

"Exception" - Road trips and trips to Sioux Falls.

2. If it's in the break-room or on the filing cabinet, it's not for me. Snacking at work is not working out for me. I'm taking a page from Nancy Reagan and just saying, "NO!"

3. I know how to cook - I don't need to go to a restaurant to eat. I just need to not be lazy.

4. Exercise is not to be skipped. I vow to work-out at least 5-7 days a week. I may not make all of my scheduled classes, but there's no excuse for missing completely. Even if I have to deal with that bitch Jillian.

I figure if I can go back to keeping my calorie count between 12-1500 a day, and keep up with the exercise, I should be able to lose about a pound a week. If I can do that, I should be able to fit back into my pants within a month. My bras will fit better within three months, and I might be able to justify some new clothes when I go to Orlando in January (not a cruise, just parks).

Upcoming Problems

1. 31 Party - I'm cooking and it's not likely to be healthy. My plan is to get other people to take the leftovers home. Also, to not skimp out on the exercising.

2. Thanksgiving - Just deal with the fact that you will be eating that weekend and it will include desserts. Fortunately, I still have the 5K on Friday, I can sign up for zumba on Saturday, and use Amy's treadmill when needed. There shouldn't be an excuse to skip exercising.

3. Christmas - I'll be baking, I'll be sampling, I'll try to keep it under control. Using cookies as gifts should help.

4. Orlando - I'll be in Orlando for the week after New Year's. I'm hoping walking around the parks will negate the park food.

5. Las Vegas - I'll be in Las Vegas for a long weekend in June. I will be at the buffets. Again, hoping the walking around negates at least some of the food.


If I can get my BMI to read normal rather than overweight, I'm going to buy the DVD cabinet I found on Amazon. It'll take some time to get that 20-25 pounds off, so I should have time to save up the $300 I'll need.

Highlights -

Ran in the Honker 5K this morning - best time ever but still dead last (that's probably hyperbole, but not by much!). I will not be running with the Pierre Area Running Club anytime soon. I would do nothing but slow them down.

Caught The Office and Community today. I expect Angela's pregnancy was planned, while Pam's had to be written in. I'm sorry we missed Angela and the Senator's wedding though - maybe we'll get some flashbacks! I can't wait to see how Community shakes out- the Annie/Jeff allusions were terribly overt and that is my ship. Britta as a therapist is horribly funny. I'm pretty sure Abed is retreating more into the world of television in a very dangerous way- makes me wonder if he's had more communication with his mother. An intervention may be necessary.

I borrowed The Other Guys from the library and watched it. It was funnier than I thought it was going to be.

I still need to catch up with the rest of my shows. I still want to see The Playboy Club, among other things. I need to explore all the sites and see which episodes are available for streaming. TV's a lot more work now that I don't have DVR.
